Ritual and party all in one' at Burning Man BLACK ROCK CITY, Nev. -- A terrasphere made of four facing satellite dishes seems to beam and communicate with itself, stories about the universe flash on the ceiling of a dome, a Milky Way installation seems to float and rotate (the wrong way, mind you) in mid air. The northeastern Nevada desert was dotted with lighted art installations, most in keeping with this year's theme for the Burning Man arts festival, the "Vault of Heaven." Read more... |

Art at Burning Man has traditionally been earthbound. The Tribe changed that notion in 2003 by building The Eyes Of Gawd! The main objective was to display an interpretation of GOD'S EYES 125' in the night sky over the playa. To achieve this goal our group of 35+ members (of questionable sanity) built a lightweight black graphite framed "canvas" that was suspended under two 12' diameter black helium balloons. Below the balloons, the frame displayed The Eyes of Gawd with over 600' of animated EL (Electro Luminescent) aqua blue wire. For 2004 the Tribe has merged with the Mad Scientists and so the Eyes will return along with Terrasphere, Cylinder of Science (inside the temple of the man), the Sinners Hall of Shame, and Mars Attacks! (and our initial plan was totake it easy this year :-)
